Before Roe v. Wade, women died trying to end their pregnancies. Before the decision, most states did not allow legal abortion and millions of women were denied agency over their bodies. However, restrictions on abortion did not stop women from seeking abortions. Many women died or were punished. Elisabeth Stevens condenses a four-part series published by The Washington Post in 1966 when abortion was illegal.
